Volvo Ocean Race / “Winning the In-Port Race Series puts the cherry on top of the cake,” said sailor Adil Khalid

27 June 2015 - Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing (ADOR) – the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Volvo Ocean Race (VOR) Champions – made it a triple triumph on Saturday, after adding the In-Port Race Series (IPRS) title to its overall title and IWC Schaffhausen 24-hour Speed Record Challenge trophy with a sixth place in the Swedish heat of the short course competition in Gothenburg.

Volvo Ocean Race / Atlantic crossing offers mixed challenges to six-strong fleet

Spanish boat MAPFRE (Iker Martínez/ESP), winners of the in-port race a day earlier, were again the class act as they led the six-boat Volvo Ocean Race fleet out of Newport at the start of Leg 7 after a hugely successful stopover.

Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing (ADOR), the emirate’s 2014–2015 Volvo Ocean Race entrant, made it through a nerve-wrackingly tense run-in to the finish line to win Leg 1 of the round-the-world race from Alicante, Spain to Cape Town, South Africa on Wednesday, 5th November 2014.

#VolvoOceanRace / Pressure? At least, Mars Bars don’t cost $100 any more

The days of hungry Volvo Ocean Race sailors trading chocolate snack bars at $100 a time are over thanks to the new one-design Volvo Ocean 65 boat.

While some focused on their watch tactics or other strategies on the eve of the opening Alicante in-port race, skipper Bouwe Bekking (NED/Team Brunel), told a news conference today that he’s looking forward to at least eating properly on the nine-month offshore marathon which kicks off on October 11.

#VolvoOceanRace / Chris Nicholson and Vestas won Leg 0 (images)

They entered the race last, but they are ready. Chris Nicholson’s men proved it at dawn this Sunday, winning Leg 0 in Alicante. Sure, it’s only a practice race, and Brunel wasn’t far behind – just 10 seconds and 100 metres in fact. But hats off to Team Vestas Wind - they started their campaign two months ago, and today they took the honours.

#VolvoOceanRace / Seven VO65 set off together : "Leg Zero is a really important exercise"

Seven Volvo Ocean Race boats set off together for the two-day Leg Zero on Friday knowing that a series of “crises” loom for all of them – and they have all been planned by the organisers. The fleet will be sailing to Majorca and back from Race headquarters in Alicante and failure to complete the trip will mean they will have to return to do it again or at least complete any unfinished mileage.

VOR / Groupama complete victory in Galway, Franck Cammas :"This is my dream" (video)

Groupama crossed the finish line in the pitch black Galway night to settle the closest contest in the 39-year history and crown themselves Volvo Ocean Race champions 2011-12. While CAMPER were celebrating victory in the ninth and final leg, Groupama skipper Franck Cammas led his team home in second place to take an unassailable 24-point lead with just one in-port race to go.
