Alinghi takes off in 2015 "The GC32, as with the D35 and the X40, is a strict one-design class"

Alinghi, created by Ernesto Bertarelli, won the America’s Cup in 2003 in Auckland under the colors of the Société Nautique de Genève. In doing so, it set a double precedent in the history of the world’s oldest sports’ trophy: A first victory at a first attempt; and the first “European” team to bring the “Auld Mug” back to the continent since the first competition in 1851.

Alinghi Programm : No team in 34th America's Cup but the Swiss Team in the Extreme Sailing Series

Alinghi, two times winner of the America’s Cup, has today announced that it will not enter a team in the 34th edition of the prestigious sailing trophy and instead has launched a new programme that will see the Swiss team participating in the Extreme Sailing Series.

After a careful evaluation of the protocol and other initiatives taken by the American Defender and its Challenger of Record, Alinghi considers that the existing conditions make it impossible for the team to participate in the 34th America’s Cup.

D35 / Alinghi to attempt Ruban Bleu record (ITW)

The D35 season may be over, but the Alinghi crew isn't ready to swap sailing boots for skis just yet. The six-man crew is on stand-by for the Swiss Ruban Bleu record attempt run by the Société Nautique de Genève in partnership with Syz&Co and currently held by Philippe Cardis who notched up a 4 hour, 53 minute record with his D35, Julius Baer, in October 2007. The record attempt follows the same course as the Bol d'Or, so from Geneva to Le Bouveret and back; the full stretch of the lake. There a few rules to obey: you must start before 1300 for safety reasons (night sailing being prohibited) and you must achieve the record before the end of October (too cold after that) or wait until next year.

Challenge Julius Baer / Alinghi wins Sogeti Cup La Reserve (ITW)

The Alinghi crew was enjoying its second consecutive Grand Prix victory last night, but had come to terms with the fact that – despite another win – the season championship title had slipped further from reach. To be in with a chance at overall victory after the final event on 17 September, Alinghi needed Banque Populaire to drop off the podium at La Reserve. True to their current form, Banque Populaire did not oblige.

Challenge Julius Baer / Alinghi back on the podium (ITW)

After a day and a half waiting for the wind on Lake Geneva last weekend, the 12-strong D35 fleet finally got away on Sunday for three races of the Grand Prix Open de Crans in a 3-8 knot Séchard.

The refinements made to the Alinghi multihull over the summer holidays and the team's renewed focus on light air training paid off and Alinghi had strong starts in the first and second races, crossing ahead of the fleet and leading around the course to take two wins. Two out three wins on Sunday was enough to secure the regatta victory and to put the Alinghi team back on the podium for the overall season championship.
