Image / A Large Crowd attended the Christening of the MOD70 Nr 1 Race for Water

Steve Ravussin’s MOD70 trimaran Race for Water was christened yesterday by French actress Anne Richard. More than a thousand spectators attended the great sound and light show and a spectacular 4D projection has transformed the façade of the Cité de la Voile Eric Tabarly. The first MOD70 is also the ambassador of the Multi One Attitude Foundation, whose mission is the preservation of Water. One of the cornerstones of the Foundation is based on a strong educational program, including Titeuf, the famous cartoon character drawn by Zep.

Velux 5 Oceans / Wet and Wild Start for Velux 5 Oceans sprint three (Foto)

IT was a wild, wet and windy start to the third sprint of the VELUX 5 OCEANS solo round the world yacht race today as the four ocean racers blasted out of Wellington Harbour. Grey, drizzly conditions with strong 25 to 30 knot winds greeted the skippers as they set sail on the sprint to Punta del Este Uruguay, the third of five legs that make up The Ultimate Solo Challenge.

Despite the weather, hundreds of people flocked to Queens Wharf in central Wellington to watch the emotional departure ceremony before thousands lined the city's waterfront for the race start which took place just a few hundred metres from the shore.

The test team fitted the wing into the platform this afternoon before craning the boat into the water dockside. The design and build team accelerated the schedule due to a forecast calling for strong winds associated with a tropical cyclone tomorrow which might hold the team ashore for a few days.

BMW ORACLE Racing reaches final of Louis Vuitton Trophy Dubai (Images)

BMW ORACLE Racing advanced to the final of the Louis Vuitton Trophy Dubai, the fitting finale for America’s Cup Class monohulls, with a sterling performance in today’s semifinal round.

Led by skipper James Spithill, the American team, which won the 33rd America’s Cup in February, defeated the German/French All4One crew 2-0 to advance to the final where it will meet Emirates Team New Zealand, also a 2-0 winner in the semifinal round.

Velux 5 Oceans / Five skippers crossed the line to begin the journey of a lifetime

AND they’re off! With the sun shining brightly and a fresh breeze blowing, the five international skippers in the VELUX 5 OCEANS blasted across the start line beginning a 30,000-mile adventure around the globe.

 It was the start of an epic voyage for the ocean racers, during which they will sail their 60ft Eco 60 yachts across five oceans through some of the best – and worst – conditions known to man. Thousands of people flocked to the VELUX 5 OCEANS race village in La Rochelle, France, to watch the brave men depart on their adventure.

Extreme Sailing Series / The Wave, Muscat make history in Oman (Images)

Oman Sail’s Extreme 40 The Wave, Muscat has won the final event of the 2010 Extreme Sailing Series and with it secured overall victory in the 2010 Series. The Wave, Muscat has also achieved one of Oman Sail’s key milestones; an Omani sailor standing on the podium of a top international sailing event for the first time in the country’s history.

International C-Class Catamaran Championship / Canadians Successfully Defend Trophy (Foto)

Canadians Fred Eaton and Magnus Clarke, the defenders of the International C-Class Catamaran Trophy – sailed at the NYYC’s Harbour Court -- won the first match race today with Canaan; they beat Australians Glenn Ashby and James Spithill on Alpha by about five minutes in light winds.
