Class40 / Sidney Gavignet and Fahad Al Hasni in the Transat Jacques Vabre transatlantic race

Gavignet and Al Hasni will take on some of the world's best shorthanded sailors in an ambitious programme that – all going well – will culminate in the Transat Jaques Vabre transatlantic race in November.

ITW / Musandam-Oman Sail capsize, all crew safely ashore in Newfoundland

The Musandam-Oman Sail crew were safely transferred ashore in Newfoundland overnight following the capsize of the MOD70 trimaran on Sunday morning while racing the Transat Quebec-St Malo.

MOD70 / Musandam-Oman Sail claim line honours and new world record in Volvo Round Ireland Race

Musandam-Oman Sail set a new world record for sailing around Ireland and posted a sensational victory in the 2016 Volvo Round Ireland Race after a cliff-hanger finish with just minutes separating the three giant trimarans on the line.

Arriving back in Wicklow Bay, after a thrilling contest with the other MOD70s, Phaedo and Concise, for most of the 700 nautical mile course, Sidney Gavignet’s crew were exhausted but exhilarated by their victory and the new record, which they had set themselves last year beating Steve Fossett’s longstanding Lakota record from 1993.

ExSS / Oman Air on a winning streak after another cracking day in Muscat

Oman Air enjoyed another cracking day on the Muscat race course to put them in a strong position going into the final day of the 2016 Extreme Sailing Series Muscat event. And Morgan Larson got to experience his first ever Optimist race against a fleet of keen young Omanis from the Omantel Oman Sail youth squad as a warm up!

The search has stopped, “We are completely devastated,” said David Graham

In an immensely sad decision, today, nine days after the man overboard incident, the search has stopped. Today we will accompany Mohammed’s father and uncle back to Muscat to be with their family at this tragic time. The Italian and Croatian coastguards remain on alert.

Oman GC32 crew head to the Isle of Wight for Cowes Cup and Round the Island Race

Fresh from a win in Cardiff at Act 4 of the Extreme Sailing Series, Leigh McMillan and his The Wave, Muscat crewmates Pete Greenhalgh, Nasser Al Mashari and Ed Smyth head for Cowes on the Isle of Wight where they will be joined by Alister Richardson for the second stop on the Bullitt GC32 Racing Tour.

MOD70 / Sidney Gavignet and Musandam-Oman Sail will be in Kiel all week

The Sultanate of Oman’s flagship Musandam-Oman Sail might have missed breaking its own 2014 record of 1 hour 47 minutes and 22 seconds, by just six minutes and 56 seconds this morning at Kieler Woche’s famous opening Welcome Race, but the team, including Pierre Casiraghi, had such a good run that they were far from disappointed.

For the first event on Lake Traunsee, an Alpine lake surrounded by the beautiful Salzkammergut mountains, British skipper Leigh McMillan has made sure he has his Extreme 40 teammates Nasser Al Mashari and Pete Greenhalgh on board knowing their successful collaboration on The Wave, Muscat will stand them in good stead in this brand new venture.

Record / The Round Britain and Ireland world record for Sidney Gavignet and Musandam Oman Sail

The six-man crew, skippered by Sidney Gavignet, and including Omani sailors Fahad Al Hasni, Yasser Al Rahbi and Sami Al Shukaili, key members of last year’s Round Britain and Ireland world record setting team, plus Spain’s Alex Pella and French multihull veteran Jean Baptiste Levailland, crossed the finish line beneath the Kish Lighthouse off Dublin Bay just before 1000 UTC having started their record attempt at 1704 UTC on Monday.
