After a year of rest in San Diego, the Hydroptere will return to sailing. French and American sponsors are joined by a new partner: Finesse Solutions of Santa Clara (California), a manufacturer of measurement and control solutions for life sciences process applications.

Record / DCNS develops talent to continue for 3 years with the Hydroptere

DCNS is to continue with its social and sporting programme, DCNS Develops Talent, for transmitting knowledge for three years. During this next phase the focus will be on getting young people into or back into the job market and making jobs accessible, and on diversity. At the same time, the Hydroptère (hydrofoil) and its designer and skipper Alain Thébault will be joining DCNS Develops Talent with the aim of training apprentice skippers, including Luc Alphand, correspondent for the challenges of integration in the social aspect of the programme.

On the Décision SA shipyard, Ecublens (Switzerland), in the presence of his major partners, the private banker Thierry Lombard, Associate Manager of Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch & Cie, Philippe Merk , Managing Director of the Watchmaking Manufactury Audemars Piguet and of his official scientific advisor, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) represented by Patrick Aebischer, its president, Alain Thébault talked about the history and the foundation of the project and presented the new flying sailboat. Then Jean-Mathieu Bourgeon unveiled some of the main innovations of this technological jewel, which is the result of a close collaboration between sailors, the Design Team, the EPFL, the Décision SA and B&B shipyards, the HDS and MSE design offices and the “Papés”.

A promising beginning in Cowes for l'Hydroptere

The carbon bird is still in Great-Britain. After having reached 42 knots last Sunday in front of the Red Jet, the ferry connecting Cowes to Southampton, l’Hydroptère continued her high-speed sailing sessions in the East part of the Solent. A south-west wind established at 15-20 knots gave her the opportunity to achieve top-speeds at 38 knots.
