Oman Air moves top of overall 2017 Extreme Sailing Series™ leaderboard with Hamburg victory

Oman Air took its second Act victory in a row in a thrilling Hamburg finale, despite last minute pressure from SAP Extreme Sailing Team. The triumph sees the Omani syndicate move into pole position in the overall rankings. Red Bull Sailing Team rounds off the podium while early season leader Alinghi posted its worst result since 2012, following an action-packed, crowd-pleasing day on the River Elbe for Extreme Sailing Series™ Act 5, Hamburg, presented by Land Rover.

Challenging Qingdao tests Extreme Sailing Series™ fleet in Act 2 Qingdao "Mazarin" Cup opener

Qingdao went from calm to classic in a matter of minutes today as Act 2 of the Extreme Sailing Series™ got off to an exciting start.

China's Olympic Sailing City is renowned for its tricky weather conditions that can catch sailors off guard with sudden changes – and the opening day of Act 2 Qingdao "Mazarin Cup" was a prime example.

GC32 / It's time for Qingdao and the China round of the Extreme Sailing Series™

The countdown is on as the teams prepare to take to the water for the second Act of the 2017 Extreme Sailing Series™ in China's Olympic Sailing City, Qingdao, for the "Mazarin Cup", run in conjunction with Mazarin Qingdao Shipyard Co. and hosted by Qingdao Organising Authority. Wildcard entry Team Extreme is set to join the six full-season squads for a piece of the action, which runs from 28 April – 1 May.

Muscat delivered classic conditions in an electrifying finale to the opening Act of the Extreme Sailing Series™ that saw SAP Extreme Sailing Team become the first winners of 2017.

GC32 / Oman Air win the GC32 Championship in Muscat (Results)

Oman Air scored a convincing win at the GC32 Championship, held out of Al Mouj on the outskirts of Muscat yesterday. The Omani team led the GC32 Championship from the outset on Tuesday, but it was only today that they managed to shake off those chasing them.

Oman Air’s bid to claim back the Extreme Sailing Series crown will be led by world match racing champion Phil Robertson after he was appointed skipper for the 2017 campaign starting in Muscat, Oman, in March.

ExSS / Alinghi pull off incredible comeback to take Act 6 in Madeira

Swiss team Alinghi came back from a dismasting to win Act 6 of the Extreme Sailing Series™ in extraordinary circumstances on the waters of Portugal’s Madeira Islands.

A high-speed collision with Red Bull Sailing Team yesterday resulted in the 16.5-metre mast of Alinghi’s GC32 catamaran falling down. The damage, in the third race of the day, forced the veteran crew to retire from the remaining four races and threatened to keep them off the water for the final day of Act 6.

GC32 / Alinghi close gap on ExSS overall leaders Oman Air with thrilling Act 5 win in St Petersburg

Alinghi secured their second Act win of the 2016 Extreme Sailing Series™ in an electrifying final race showdown in St Petersburg.

The Swiss crew began the deciding day of Act 5, presented by SAP, in pole position with the narrowest of margins over closest rivals and overall series leaders Oman Air, but by the time the final race came round Morgan Larson’s men were on equal points with Alinghi.

A nail-biting final day, waiting for breeze then trying to outmanoeuvre closest rival Alinghi, ended in a breathless victory for Oman Air in the Extreme Sailing Series in Hamburg which earned them their third Act win of the 2016 series.

ExSS / Oman Air and Morgan Larson win in Muscat, Andy Tourell : " The competition on the water has been fierce"

Morgan Larson stormed home to an extraordinary win in the opening Act of the 2016 Extreme Sailing Series™ in Muscat on Oman Air, alongside the team, which includes Pete Greenhalgh, James Wierzbowski, Ed Smyth and Omani national Nasser Al Mashari. Together the team won over 50% of the races sailed, more than any other team in Series history, as the Extreme Sailing Series officially completes the biggest transition of the last ten years. The flying GC32s have well and truly arrived.

#MOD70 / Musandam-Oman Sail breaks Kiel Week Welcome Race Record (ITW)

Musandam - Oman Sail lined up against an impressive 127-strong fleet on the start line this morning in Kiel in a light 10-knot breeze that built to a stonking 20 to 25-knot northwesterly as the fleet raced away from the crowds lining the dock in Kiel, into the Outer Fjord and up the coast to the finish line in Eckernforde.

60 of the world’s most prestigious sailors took to Marina Bay today, racing under the blue skies of a sultry Singapore, for one final training session ahead of the 2014 Extreme Sailing Series™ curtain raiser, which kicks-off tomorrow (20 February). With teams both old and new, legends of the sailing world united in the heart of Singapore ahead of four days of intense competition - and the heat on the racecourse instantly ramped up!

#ExSS / Sir Ben Ainslie and Franck Cammas in 2014, Ambitious series confirmed !

8 January – London: Extreme Sailing Series™ organisers OC Sport, alongside Land Rover, one of two Series Main Partners, have today confirmed details of their most ambitious Series to date at the London Boat Show. The award-winning and 'ISAF Special Event' world tour will celebrate its eighth year on the international sailing calendar with eight iconic Host Venues spanning three continents, over eleven months and nine elite level teams representing seven nations, who will compete to win the coveted Extreme Sailing Series trophy.
