Video / Minoprio still leading Portimao Portugal Match Cup

Day two at PPMC brought some surprises for the top runners of WMRT. Mathieu Richard’s French Match Racing Team lost two matches in a row ranking fifth in the classification charter together with Francesco Bruni (ITA), both with 3-2. Adam Minoprio’s ETNZ/Black Match Racing Team (NZL) still leads, having lost no “flight” during the first days of this cup.

Skipper Matthieu Richard commented on his two defeats stating that the “regatta” was at its beginning and that they would take match after match. Yesterday’s first match started well for this skipper beating Spanish Manuel Weiller, skipper of Iberdrola Team. Later, he raced against Bruni, Azzura’s skipper, against whom he had two bad starts. But this is the true essence of Match racing where a mistake may prove crucial and completely change the race’s course.

As for Italian skipper Francesco Bruni, he complained about yesterday’s bad performance where he lost two matches and won one. He was also penalized on half a point due to a collision with Swedish skipper Magnus Holmberg.

Alvaro Marinho’s Seth Sailing Team (POR) faced Bertrand Pacé’s (FRA) team. The Portuguese skipper started leading but after an unlucky choice, Marinho placed his team in disadvantage. The Portuguese team now ranks 9th in the classification charter.

Day three is expected to bring high pressure on the teams due to the approach of the quarter finals.
