The continued sponsorship is part of Telefónica’s broad promotional sailing programme, both nationally and internationally. Their programme’s successes include 15 world titles, two gold and one silver medals at Olympic Games. Their Volvo Ocean Race campaign resulted in a podium finish in the last edition and victory in the In-Port race series.

Knut Frostad, CEO of the Volvo Ocean Race, is delighted that Telefónica is returning for a third edition. “We welcome them back and we look forward to continuing to develop this great event together both on and off the water.”

Pedro Campos, CEO of Team Telefónica, comments that, “The Volvo Ocean Race is the most important offshore race in the world. The Volvo Ocean Race is probably the longest, hardest and most difficult and extreme of any sport and just taking part in it means a great challenge for any country.”

Frostad continues, “The level of the teams signed up so far for the next edition hasn't been this high in the 38-year history of the regatta. No expert is able to predict who will win. It is going to be a veritable oceanic clash of the titans!”
