Franck Cammas’ Groupama 4 has covered more than 16,473 nautical miles since racing started at Alicante, Spain on November 5, averaging more than 13.4 knots boat speed.

Overall race leaders Team Telefónica have sailed almost 100 nautical miles less than the French, totalling the second highest tally of 16,376 nm.

Team Sanya, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing and PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG all failed to finish Leg 1, though PUMA sailed much further before being forced out by their broken mast.

Sanya also missed out on the short stages of Legs 2 and 3 yet they still managed more miles than Abu Dhabi’s Azzam, recording 9,326 nm to 8,866 nm for Ian Walker’s team.

Sanya’s detour with broken rigging to the tropical island of Madagascar during Leg 2 saw the team cover more than 600 nm of race course than the remainder of the fleet who sailed uninterrupted from Cape Town to the loading port of Malé in the Maldives.

CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand have notched up 16,244 nm, while PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG have totalled 13,927 nm.
