The race got off to a tight start with the boats exchanging the lead before Williams took control of the conditions, catching a strong wind from the right hand side to open up a large gap to take the race win by an impressive 45 seconds.

Williams went on to beat home-favourite Koo in his final race of qualifying to secure the all-important first pick in the quarter finals draw.

Williams chose to face David Gilmour and has already taken a huge step towards the semi-finals by securing race wins in the first two flights of their best of five quarter final.

Commenting on the day’s racing, Williams said, “It was great to finish top of qualifying and get such a strong start in the quarter finals as it really shows how well we’re working as a team. The guys have been great so far this week and that showed in the race against Canfield. It was tight at the start, but we stuck to our game plan and were able to pull away for the win.

We’ve started the quarter finals well taking an important 2-0 lead. However, we’re not getting ahead of ourselves as tomorrow is a new day and Gilmour will come out fighting. We’re just taking each race as it comes”.

The quarter finals will continue tomorrow, with racing commencing at 10.00am (GMT+8).
