WMRT / Torvar Topples Robertson To Win His First World Title

Torvar Mirsky has become the Match Racing World Champion after beating defending champion Phil Robertson 3-1 in the 2017 finals in Shenzhen, China. The skipper from Western Australia tore up the script, defied the odds, and sailed out of his skin to beat the form sailor of the past two seasons, New Zealand’s Phil Robertson.

WMRT / Williams Shuts Out Champion To Win Chicago Match Cup

In front of a cheering crowd at Navy Pier, Lake Michigan turned on all the drama for the final day of the Chicago Match Cup as Ian Williams, skipper of GAC Pindar, defeated current Match Racing World Champion Phil Robertson in a tour de force shutout victory.

M32 / Stacked Standings Define Day One at Chicago Match Cup (Results)

The competitive lineup for the 2017 Chicago Match Cup did not waste any time carving up the Lake Michigan racecourse during fleet racing today, with few points separating nearly all the teams in each of the three groups – surely, all the skippers will sleep anxious for the final qualifying session races tomorrow.

WMRT / Yann Guichard : "In Chicago, our main goal is to work on our starts."

A new week of highly competitive match racing begins on 27th September, when the 18 teams competing in the World Match Racing Tour will be in Chicago to again start the on-water duels. The third largest city in the United States will provide an impressive backdrop to the much anticipated racing on Lake Michigan, with this event being the final competitive ‘dress rehearsal’ before the World Championship event in Shenzhen, China at the end of October.

WMRT / Robertson Finds More Gold at the End of His Rollercoaster

After a week of ups and downs, a couple of bad hooks and a few close shaves, it was business as usual for the super smooth Phil Robertson and his CHINAone Ningbo team as they beat Sam Gilmour’s Neptune Racing team 3-0 in the final of WMRT Match Cup Russia in St. Petersburg on Sunday.

M32 / ROBERTSON ON A ROLL AS WMRT TURNS TO RUSSIA

Current Match Racing World Champion Phil Robertson and his CHINAone NINGBO team are in a dominant position and on supreme form as they head to the fourth round of the World Match Racing Tour Championship season – the WMRT Match Cup Russia hosted by the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, supported by Gazprom, August 1-6.

M32 / Robertson defends his title at GKSS Match Cup Sweden

After beating Pieter-Jan Postma’s Sailing Team NL in this morning’s semifinals, Phil Robertson and his CHINAone NINGBO crew went on win the final of GKSS Match Cup Sweden, dispatching Taylor Canfield’s US One Sailing Team. This repeated the Kiwi team’s victory on the Marstrand Arena in 2016, against the same opponent, but this time with a more emphatic 3-0 scoreline.

New Zealand’s Phil Robertson, the reigning world champion, made it look easy as he cruised to a 3–0 victory in the final of the Match Cup Australia, beating local skipper Matt Jerwood.

World Match Racing Tour / Flying Dutchman disposes of Barkow and Anyon

Match racing is a cruel sport, there is no second, just winners and losers, and Sally Barkow and George Anyon were reminded of this today in brutal style. Both have been eliminated from the Match Cup Australia with Dutch sailor Pieter-Jan Postma defeating both and making it through to the Super 16 Round.

The who’s who of the match racing sailing world are rocking into Perth for the Match Cup Australia, the first Championship level event on the 2017 World Match Racing Tour, there are Olympic medallist of every colour, world record holders and world champions are as plentiful as confetti a wedding.

M32 / WMRT Tour Card to Yann Guichard, "We are still learning a lot"

Yann Guichard came in to last season as a real dark horse. His talent in multihulls was unquestioned but his lack of experience in match racing made many people question his abilities. But after a strong result in the match racing for Team France in the Americas Cup World Series he was awarded a wild card entry to the first event in Fremantle. He did not disappoint his fans when the Spindrift Racing team reached the semifinals on their first try.

M32 / Iker Martinez receives firs ever spanish tourt card on WMRT

Over the years there has been a lack of front runners for the WMRT title from Iberia, but with a Tour Card at his disposal, Iker Martinez will truly be a wild card in the hunt for the World Championship title. With a new M32 catamaran to train on and solid sponsors backing his campaign he will be a force to reckoned with from the start of the 2017 WMRT season.

WMRT / July 4th - 9th, finals at Marstrand

Marstrand has never been an easy place to master. Ever since 1994 when Swedish match racing legend Magnus Holmberg organized the first high-profile racing there, this small island has played host to some of the greatest match racers in the world. It will do so again just a few days from now, when Marstrand stages the World Match Racing Tour Finals.

M32 Tour / Gac Pindar and Ian Williams triumph in Gothenburg

Gothenburg June 18th, 2016. Ian Williams and his team GAC Pindar managed to bring out their best game in the deciding races of M32 Series Scandinavia in Gothenburg. They ended the action filled final day with a win that put them on top of the podium.

PRO Mattias Dahlström and the race committee of the World Match Racing Tour Newport had their work cut out today as the breeze for the most part refused to co-operate. After a full day out on the water, just one round of the Quarter Finals was completed.

WMRT / "It was the first day of my sailing the M32 in these conditions” explained Martinez

After yesterday’s torrential rain and pea soup fog that restricted visibility on the race course, today Mother Nature smiled upon Newport, Rhode Island. The early morning mist burned off, finally revealing Goat Island and downtown Newport (invisible all of yesterday) and the sun came out allowing a gusty sea breeze to build into the high teens.

WMRT / Taylor Canfield cashes in on Iker Martinez mistake to conquer Copenhagen

Taylor Canfield (ISV), US One, has won World Match Racing Tour Copenhagen after beating Iker Martinez (ESP), Team Espana, in the most extraordinary circumstances. After taking straightforward wins in the first two matches of the final, in the third match Canfield found himself in a much tougher battle with the 2008 49er Olympic Champion who was improving by the race.

M32 / M32 Scandinavian Series comes to Copenhagen this week

When one of sailing’s fastest disciplines, the M32 Scandinavian Series, comes to Copenhagen’s Tuborg Havn this week, Danish fans will be able to wave their flags for two of their top sailors.

The 32ft long high performance catamaran circuit holds its opening event of 2016 in the Danish capital from Thursday 5th May until Saturday 7th May, with racing daily at 1400-1700. Among the skippers of the eight teams competing, Danes Jes Gram Hansen and Nicolai Sehested, both could win the event.

M32 / Team Magenta skippered by Sally Barkow wins in Bermuda

Hamilton, Bermuda - After two near perfect days of racing on Bermuda’s Great Sound, Team Magenta 32 skippered by Sally Barkow clinched victory at the third and penultimate stage of the M32 Series Bermuda posting an impressive eight wins out of fifteen races over the two day regatta. ‘We had some great starts, good speed and not too many mistakes’ commented Barkow on a perfect weekend for the team.
