Volvo Ocean Race / Vestas 11th Hour Racing arrives into Itajaí

Vestas 11th Hour Racing has arrived in Itajaí – one week after leaving the Falkland Islands under jury rig, following a dismasting on Leg 7. The blue boat docked into Brazil on Monday having been delivered the 1,500 mile trip by sailor Damian Foxall and members of the team's shore crew – Diego Torrado, Andres Guerra Font, Spencer Loxton and Diego Turell.

Volvo Ocean Race / Vestas 11th Hour Racing prepares for delivery of Volvo Ocean 65 to Itajai

On March 30th Vestas 11th Hour Racing was dismasted and forced to retire from Leg 7 of the Volvo Ocean Race, a 7,100-mile leg from Auckland, New Zealand to Itajai, Brazil. The team made landfall in the Falkland Islands, and is currently executing a plan to return to the race in time for the start of Leg 8 on April 22nd. The Volvo Ocean 65 will soon leave Stanley Harbour on the 1,500-mile journey north with an increased fuel capacity, the aid of a temporary mast, and repaired sails sourced from local boat owners.

Volvo Ocean Race / Vestas 11th Hour Racing dismasted off Falkland Islands - Crew Safe

At 15:59 UTC on 30 March 2018, Vestas 11th Hour Racing suffered a dismasting approximately 100 miles southeast of the Falkland Islands. The entire crew is safe and uninjured. The mast broke just above the first spreader but has been cut away to protect the hull from damage.

Volvo Ocean Race / Vestas will participate in next Southern Ocean leg

Team Vestas will participate in next Southern Ocean leg around Cape Horn and onwards to Brazil. The team hasn’t raced since the collision in the latter stages of Leg 4, during the final approach to Hong Kong. The team hopes to relaunch their VO65 in the coming days.
