Regatta / Concise home as Dongfeng Race Team leads VO65s around the Rock

Unchallenged, Concise 10 blazed into Plymouth this morning, first boat home in the 47th Rolex Fastnet Race. Tony Lawson’s MOD70 trimaran crossed the finish line off Plymouth breakwater at 05:55:00 BST with a race time of 42 hours and 55 minutes. This time didn’t come close to the overall multihull record for the Rolex Fastnet Race but it was still respectable considering they sailed upwind all the way to the Fastnet Rock.

Fastnet Race / Figaro class line honours for double-act Curwen and Dalin : "The race was awesome !"

After a tight tactical battle at the front of the 9-boat Figaro fleet in the classic Rolex Fastnet Race, spanning 608-miles from Cowes to Plymouth via Fastnet Rock, Artemis Offshore Academy skipper Nikki Curwen and Charlie Dalin (Artemis 77) took line honours to win the Figaro Class – marking the first time in the history of the Rolex Fastnet Race that the class has been given its own division. Five minutes later, the next two Figaro boats approached the line and with just metres to go Ed Hill and Gilles Chiorri (Artemis 37) pipped French crew Xavier Macaire and Yves Ravot to second place, with just five seconds to spare!

History has been made at the Rolex Fastnet Race. Pascal and Alexis Loison’s JPK 1010 Night And Day from France has won the 2013 edition and is the first doublehanded crew ever to do so. A remarkable, near unthinkable achievement, which sets a new milestone for the mythical 88-year old race.

Spindrift 2 is leading the Fastnet Race, Yann Guichard : "It is definitely not over yet"

After an excellent start, the 40m trimaran, Spindrift 2, led the Multihull division along the south coast of England last night, but earlier this morning off Land's End it was the Sidney Gavignet-skippered MOD70, Oman Air-Musandam, that had moved into the first place, despite being half Spindrift's length. Crossing the Celtic Sea, it was then the turn of the 31.5m trimaran, Banque Populaire, to edge ahead. But at the Fastnet Rock, Spindrift 2, just managed to get her nose in front, rounding at 14.03:08 BST with the Armel le Cleac'h skippered Banque Populaire right on her transom.

VOR / Ticking clock means no time for Fastnet celebrations

Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing enjoyed a record-breaking debut in the Rolex Fastnet Race while Groupama and Team Sanya could also point to lightning quick times but with just over two months to go before the start of the Volvo Ocean Race there is no time for leisurely celebrations.
