Conditions on the race course tested the crews again. Winds were anywhere from 4 to 12 knots, and quite shifty at times, as a series of rain showers interrupted an otherwise sunny afternoon. Each squall brought it's own wind direction and speed, making for difficult racing.

"It's definitely been quite tricky out here," said Loick Peyron, one of two helmsman for Energy Team, at the end of today's session. "But that also makes the competition much more open, so I think it could be quite an interesting week."

Also enjoying the conditions today was fellow Frenchman Fred Le Peutrec, the skipper of China Team in Naples. His team sailed well in the two fleet races this afternoon, leading for much of the first and scoring a top half finish in the second.

"Not a bad day. We are just concentrating on trying to be more consistent," he said. "But at this stage we are not too concerned about the results. It's more important how we are working on board. And step by step, it is better every day.

"The main thing for me is to develop a feel for the boat. It's a very puffy wind here, so I'm learning a lot every day, and we're seeing improvement. The guys are happy and laughing tonight, so we're feeling quite good right now."
