Luna Rossa Piranha – helmsman Chris Draper and tactician Francesco Bruni - won all three fleet races of the day and is now at the top of the provisional ranking with a total of 27 points. Draper won all three starts and from there he kept his advantage on the rest of the fleet.

In the third race, after Luna Rossa Piranha got stuck in a lull, Artemis Racing took the lead but was forced once again behind Piranha after receiving a penalty for not having left room at the rounding of the last mark (rule 18). At that point Draper’s boat took the lead and won the race.

Luna Rossa Swordfish closed the day in second place, at only 6 points from its team mate’s boat and one point ahead of Energy Team who is currently third.

Seven crews participated in today’s event which was characterized by very light breezes.

One of the Oracle Team USA boats chose to not race today. Emirates Team New Zealand stayed on land for maintenance.

Tomorrow is the second and last day of the event in which two races will take place in front of the Lido and the third will finish in front of St. Mark’s square.

Chris Draper, Luna Rossa Piranha helmsman: “We had some really good starts today and this is something we are really happy about. We have worked very hard to prepare for this event. It was good to see that the outcome of our training gave the results we had aimed for. It always feels good when you win but even more so when we see the tangible results of our improvement”.
