AC72 / Oracle Team USA's new wing arrives in San Francisco

ORACLE TEAM USA’s new wing sail is scheduled to arrive to the Bay Area Tuesday, Jan. 8. This wing is the second built by the team and will be used to get the Defender’s first AC72 sailing again.

As a result of the capsize of ORACLE TEAM USA ‘17’ in October, the first wing and hulls were damaged. The new wing departed from Core Builders Composites in New Zealand on Dec. 23 onboard a container ship. After the ship docks in Oakland in the morning, the wing will be unloaded onto a truck, transported through the South Bay and back up to the team base at Pier 80 in San Francisco.

Once the wing is unloaded, the team will begin the assembly process followed by testing in the coming weeks. Repairs and reassembly are continuing on ORACLE TEAM USA ‘17,’ and the boat is expected to be ready to sail again in early February.
