Following the results of 2013, crowned by the recent award as Italian Sailor of the Year, Giancarlo decided in 2014 to engage in two projects simultaneously : the search for one or more co - sponsors that could allow him to take part in the Vendée Globe 2016 and a new Mini 6.50 campaign .

The Vendée Globe is a mythical race, which until now only four Italians took part : Vittorio Malingri in 1989 , Simone Bianchetti and Pasquale de Gregorio in 2000, Alessandro di Benedetto in the latest edition of 2012.
"My story continues with Prysmian Group" - declared Giancarlo . " The company, which is sponsoring me for over 7 years , it remains at my side and has decided to support a new Mini campaign" .
That is not a second choice , it is a stage toward his goal .
" I'm approaching a new season on Mini 6:50 because this class it's under my skin," says Giancarlo . "For me it is a way to continue my preparation to the project Vendée Globe . It's important to continue sailing, keep in touch with the ocean and the ocean- race with a boat which is actually an IMOCA reduced to a third . "
Prysmian ITA 747 is indeed one of the most technological prototypes launched today with a telescopic canting keel, four ballast tanks, canting and rotating mast .
The 2014 season of Prysmian and Giancarlo will take place again in the Atlantic, and will begin with the Lorient Bretagne Sud Min 2014, a new race in double, 115 miles long that takes place between Lorient and Pornichet and envisages the circumnavigation of the island of Belle- Ile and Groix .
